John Tunison from MLive asked a series of questions about Ottawa County which are posted in an article dated July 12, 2024. The following is an excerpt.
Should faith play a role in county government?
Joe Moss: Yes. All people have faith in something, so faith always plays a role in county government. Some people have faith in God, others have faith in themselves, or faith in government.
County commissioners make decisions based on their own faith and worldview.
I believe in God and use my Christian faith to inform my decisions. I will continue to use my faith in the public square and encourage other people to do the same.
We live in a beautiful country that upholds religious freedom for all people and has a rich heritage of people using their faith in government, especially our Founding Fathers.

“Ideas have consequences, and bad ideas have victims.” John Stonestreet, President of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, explains that a culture that is disconnected from truth (and from God, the source of truth) is a culture full of bad ideas.
Government policy is made by people. Every person has a worldview, or a lens, by which they see and interpret the world. I will continue to advocate that Christians need to use their worldview in the public square to make good, righteous, and courageous decisions to protect The People and promote life.
Ottawa County needs leaders who are bold and courageous—unafraid to stand firm on their convictions—who will root out and call out bad ideas, like the divisive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department that cost taxpayers almost $300,000 per year. We need leaders who prioritize core government services, reducing regulations, and our veterans. These types of leaders protect The People and prioritize freedom for all.
My mission is to keep Ottawa County a place Where Freedom Rings and families thrive! I’m thankful to serve The People of Ottawa County.
