This morning I spoke to FOX 17 about the J.H. Campbell plant. I explained that I support keeping the plant open and I’m glad to see people focused on energy policy at the local, state, and federal levels.

The reporter asked about the cost to run the plant, which some have said cost rate payers $1M per day. I responded that preliminary numbers indicate the plant likely made over $1M per day in revenue, resulting in a net profit. This makes sense due to the increased demand for electricity in the MISO grid. I look forward to seeing more details reported in the future.

Elected officials and community members are seeking to form an exploratory committee related to keeping the J.H. Campbell plant open long-term. These are complex issues, and continued discussion is a good idea.

The Trump Administration and Energy Secretary Chris Wright should absolutely continue the emergency order keeping the Campbell Plant open. Demand for electricity is expected to increase. We need reliable energy sources like the J.H. Campbell plant, and should actively oppose Gov. Whitmer’s Climate Crisis agenda. (The Dems are pushing “equity and climate justice” while demanding we shut down reliable coal power plants.)

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners has discussed these issues and voted on Campbell resolutions. We need to focus on protecting residents, maintaining base load energy production, and protecting farmland. Thank you President Trump and Secretary Wright for taking action on behalf of the citizens!
