This is the first point of contact for the office. Keep operations running, make sure residents of HD-89 can reach their representative, and help resolve problems.

You will:

• Serve as first point of contact for phone, mail, and district email.
• Manage the representative’s calendar, travel between Lansing and the district, and daily workflow.
• Track and support constituent casework.
• Draft correspondence, ceremonial letters, and routine replies.
• Help plan district meetings, coffee hours, and in-district events.
• Keep files, contacts, and follow-ups organized.
• Write social posts and help monitor what is happening in the district.
• Support session, committee, and meeting prep as needed.

You should bring:

• Professional, resourceful administrative and customer-service skills.
• Excellent writing, phone manner, and judgment under deadline.
• Microsoft Office proficiency and the ability to learn House systems quickly.
• A willingness to learn the legislative process and how state agencies actually work.
• Preferred: knowledge of HD-89 communities, prior office or government experience, and a bachelor’s degree. Neither a degree nor prior Lansing experience is required if the skills are there.

Compensation: House FY27 scale — Constituent Services I: $35,000–$54,848; Constituent Services II: $43,546–$60,055, plus House employee benefits. Level set by experience.

Location: District 89 and Lansing office, with regular travel. Some evenings and district events are part of the job.

This is the legislative engine of the office. Help turn Joe’s agenda into bills, amendments, testimony, and votes.

You will:

• Research, draft, and track legislation tied to the office priorities.
• Prepare materials for session, committees, and meetings.
• Staff committee meetings and attend meetings on the representative’s behalf.
• Work with bill drafters, policy advisors, stakeholders, and caucus staff.
• Answer constituent questions that require a policy or legislative response.
• Plan district policy meetings and keep the office current on issues that matter locally.
• Help manage the legislative calendar and flag votes, hearings, and deadlines.
• Mentor interns and keep the policy workflow disciplined.

You should bring:

• A bachelor’s degree and/or legislative-related experience (two years for Policy I; five years preferred for Policy II).
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills. You will be judged on the quality of the memo, not the length.
• Familiarity with the Michigan legislative process and state government operations, or the ability to learn it fast.
• Comfort representing the office with stakeholders, agencies, and other legislative staff.
• Preferred: experience in policy, local government, energy/land use, budgeting, or conservative policy shops. Knowledge of West Michigan is a plus.

Compensation: House FY27 scale — Policy Services I: $47,683–$65,760; Policy Services II: $59,321–$80,000, plus House employee benefits. Level set by experience.

Location: District 89 and Lansing office, with travel to the district for meetings and events. Session, committee weeks, and end-of-session periods require extra hours.
