Did you receive hit piece mailers this week attacking Joe Moss?
Consumers Energy and its dark-money groups known as “Citizens for Energizing Michigan’s Economy” and “Faithful Conservatives for Michigan” are running a coordinated smear campaign. They are sending false mailers against me, while also promoting my primary opponent, a housing developer named Patrick Kapenga.

These attacks are false.
- Ottawa County never paid anyone $4M. In 2023, the health officer demanded $4M but actually received $0. She is still employed by the county.
- I have never had an “aide” as a county commissioner. I am an elected official and have no employees. Another false narrative designed to malign.
Special Interests & Green Energy Agenda
Consumers Energy is using these tactics against other Conservative Republicans who oppose special interests and the green energy agenda, including State Representative Steve Carra. Steve addresses it in this 10-minute video: https://www.facebook.com/steve.carra/videos/2118747639039243
Why would Consumers Energy target me? It’s simple.
- I have been one of the strongest voices in Ottawa County standing up to Consumers Energy.
- I will always stand up for the people, not special interests.
- I led efforts at the Board of Commissioners to keep the J.H. Campbell Plant open.
- I supported the Trump Administration and Christopher Wright, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, when he ordered Consumers to keep the J.H. Campbell Plant open.
- I spoke boldly and made the case that shutting down reliable baseload power is reckless when demand is rising.
- I have fought hard for local control, opposing projects like the proposed Blendon Township battery storage facility and the massive Silver Maple solar project that threaten farmland and override local township decisions.
- I’ve been critical of the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) for handing Consumers Energy rate increases over and over.
Which candidate is supported by Consumers Energy?
Consumers Energy has long been known to support Democrats and oppose Republicans. This is a widely known fact in Lansing. They have millions of dollars, and can use it to target their political opponents.
I have never accepted money from Consumers Energy.
My opponent accepted $2,000 from one of their PACs less than a month ago.

This is par for the course.
Special interests always attack leaders they see as a threat.
I welcome Consumers Energy’s endorsement against me.
Consumers Energy wants to provide power to AI data centers. Their agenda also wants to remove decisions from local townships and centralize decisions at the state level. This is bad policy. Decisions about data centers, zoning, and energy projects should be made only by local elected officials.
Election on August 4
I am running a positive campaign focused on protecting children and parental rights, defending local control, cutting taxes, and eliminating waste. I’ve delivered results as Ottawa County Board Chairman and will continue to defend our piece of America!
I’m thankful to have the strong backing of Commissioners Sylvia Rhodea and Allison Miedema, who represent parts of District 89. Our list of supporters continues to grow! (View Endorsements)
Voters across the district are seeing through these special-interest attacks. Only nine days to go until victory over Consumers Energy and their deceitful PACs!
Michigan must elect Republicans with spines of steel who will stand up to special interests and dark money from big corporations. Otherwise, Democrats will continue to give these monopolies more money at the expense of the citizens of Michigan.
